Infuriated!

So this post is a little out of character for me. I try to keep my views more to myself as to not cause too much contention or arguments. But this brought me out of my shell! I received a flyer in the mail the other day with some facts about where in Minnesota our taxes go. ( I did do some fact checking and it checks out) The flyer was a pro life flyer which of course I'm in total favor. I believe life is sacred and an important part of our Heavenly Fathers plan. The flyer stated that so far this year there have been 43,000 abortions in Minnesota and a percentage of our tax dollars go to fund this. Now I am kicking myself cause I can't find the flyer for the exact number, but I don't care if it's even 1%! I strongly disagree with abortion and certainly don't want our hard earned money going to pay of something that I don't believe in! As much as I wish it would be illegal, it's not, so women have the right to choose and that is their free agency, but to expect tax payers to help pay for that procedure is ridiculous!
I'm not thrilled with either candidate, but I feel strongly about my moral and religious beliefs and that's where I have to draw the line to protect the family unit. I feel it's the most important issue, especially when neither can come up with good plans for any of the other issues in my opinion. So I'm voting based on morality issues alone, and also I feel that my candidate will keep our country much safer than the other. Keeping this country safe is also a huge issue for me.
I do have a question to any of those who would like to respond. I am curious and would love to be enlightened, if you have the same moral beliefs as me and are voting for the other candidate, what makes you put that aside for the other issues. I'm truly curious and maybe you could persuade me. I just feel like in a time like this, that morality should come above all other issues. And I really struggle when the one candidate has voted in the senate for NOT saving a baby when there has been a botched abortion because in his words " it's a partly viable fetus"( I was living in this state when he voted on this bill and it boiled my blood then!). So not only is he for abortion, but doesn't even want to save a baby that was supposed to die but didn't and just let it suffer when it could be saved? I really am truly curious and would love some insight. This isn't an attack, just wanting to understand I guess....
Also I just watched this video on You Tube that is very moving. It's Catholic Vote 2008. I am not Catholic, but anyone who has a religious background should view this video, it may be that I have all these pregnancy hormones, but it brought tears to my eyes. Another good clip to watch is one my friend Jacque sent me put out my the LDS church http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/news-releases-stories/church-readies-members-on-proposition-8
It was given to the saints in California and it is about protecting marriage, it's very good I thought they did a very good job addressing the subject. Enjoy!

If McCain wins, abortion won't all of a sudden become illegal. If Obama wins, abortion won't all of a sudden become fully legal. But there are other BIG issues that will be affected if either wins, which is why I wouldn't vote on morals alone. I also believe that Roe v. Wade is good compromise in a very divided country when it comes to this issue. And though I don't believe in abortion myself, I don't think it's fair for the government to govern morals for the entire country. You hate that opinion, I know, but there go!! :)

Katie, I agree with you completely. I don't think either candidate has a great policy or plan that will work for sure on any issue but I do believe that you have to stick to your morals and I know I feel alot better about things when the president of our country holds some of those same moral standards and beliefs. I believe the moral ethics of our country are the BIGGEST issues we need to be worried about right now. We will get through the rest of them no matter what happens.

I do realize that I won't become illegal or legal. And I agree to and extent that government shouldn't move in and tell people what to do, that's why we are here, free agency. Like I said I just don't think that I should have to pay for it. And the problem I have with Roe V. Wade is that it keeps getting voted on and the idea of abortion has gotten worse and worse. When it was first presented it was only allowed in the first trimester and then it went to the second, then the third and then partial birth abortions. Now they are trying to vote to not save a living baby when the abortion was botched.(which Obama has voted for it 4 different times) 2 jugdes are up for retirement and the 2 candidates will place very different judges in the supreme court and that will effect this issue greatly.
If you look at great socities throughout history ie: The Roman Empire, they were a great nation for a long time and they fell because of pervertion, not economic issues. Economy always fixes it's self in the end, but helping people keep their morals dosen't come back.

By the way I do love this exchange of ideas! Please keep them coming if you want! Like I said I want to see different points of view!

In last week's debate McCain brought up this exact issue of Obama voting against saving the life of an aborted baby, and I felt that Obama's response to voting the way he did was quite reasonable. You can read the exact text at:

Apparently a law already existed? And I'm sure if a law didn't already exist, those Fact-Checker folks would have been all over it. The only negative material I've seen about Obama's response come from radical pro-life websites...and they're not a very good source for an unbiased opinion, if you asked me.

I actually haven't read any pro life websites, I lived in the state where he voted on the proposition. It's NOT legal yet to let a botched abortion baby die, that's what the vote was on. But there are other issues besides this one, that I don't think he is qualifed to hold the job. But that is the beauty of our counrty, so as nervous as this makes me, I know that either one who wins won't hold total power and that if either one does a crapy job, then we can elect someone else. I do enjoy this insight!

Do you mean it's not ILLEGAL to let a botched abortion baby die?? If it is not legal (aka illegal), to let a baby die, then all should be well and just in the world, right?? All baby's are saved. But like I mentioned above, apparently there are already laws that say Dr.s can't let a botched aboration baby die? So what's the issue? The pro-lifers wanted a tougher law? More red tape involved in the law? What?

But yeah, there are so many checks and balances in the system, so when it comes right down to it, it will be nigh unto impossible for either candidate to get anything done that they say they will...or do anything terribly wrong with the country. So, I'm not nervous at all. Either candidate would do just fine...but I'd much rather listen to speeches from Obama for the next four years, rather than listening to another wrinkly ole white guy!? :)

Tina, what's so "radical" about pro-life? I'm sorry, but after having a baby inside me, feeling it move and knowing where it came from, I cannot support any candidate who would think it's okay to just end things early for that spirit. Whether laws are changed or not, I have to support someone who would vote my way on this critical issue.
